Stand Up Paddling: where does the sport come from and what does it offer me?

The history of stand up paddling
The very young sport was invented in Hawaii and is closely related to surfing. There you stood on the original surfboards with a paddle in your hand. The aim was to get to the targeted waves faster. The surf instructors have also gained a better overview of the students through this position.

Which muscles are trained?
Practically all muscle groups are sustainably strengthened. In addition to the legs, the arms, back and middle body are trained up to the pelvic floor.
An improvement in the general physical constitution and the cardiovascular system are also guaranteed. Losing weight is also very easy on a SUP board. Even back problems and tension can be gently and sustainably eliminated with this sport. By the way, you can still enjoy the fresh air and the impressive nature.

Riding the SUP board is an ideal mix of sport and leisure.

SUP Board: What are the qualitative differences? What SUP size and length do I need?

Often the biggest difference is inside the SUP boards. A complex and so-called X-Drop-Stitch technology is installed in the interior of our high-quality SUPs. This makes it possible to inflate the boards to a strong 20 PSI (1.33 bar). This gives our boards a particularly high level of rigidity, which makes them very stable. But not only the tipping stability is increased, the board also glides very easily over the water due to the high buoyancy.

SUP boards with less volume lie deeper in the water and therefore have a higher water displacement. These boards also bend quickly in the middle. This makes paddling more difficult, more forceful and much more unstable. In this respect, we always recommend boards with at least 20 PSI.

There are many different dimensions for the SUP boards:
– Classic all-round boards are 10.6″ or 320 cm long.
– Touring boards are significantly longer at 12.6″ or 381 cm.
The stand up paddle boards also differ in width and height or thickness.
Typical are 10-15 cm height. The width is between 71.12-86.36 cm.

In general:
– lb- The wider the board, the more stable it is
– The longer the board, the faster it goes
– The shorter the board, the more maneuverable it is

SUP paddle: What is the difference between different SUP paddles?

With the paddle you generate propulsion and speed. There are very high quality carbon paddles, cheaper fiberglass paddles and simple aluminum paddles. Bamboo paddles are more exotic. The higher the quality of the paddle material, the lighter and stiffer it is.

Carbon Paddel are very light and have the best power transmission thanks to their rigidity. The paddle does not bend as much when you paddle. Thus, more paddling power is transmitted to the water. This ensures better propulsion, at the same time the paddle is very light.

Fiberglass Paddle also do a very good job. They are usually around 100 grams heavier than carbon paddles. The power transmission and stiffness is also good here. Especially beginners and advanced paddlers have a good solution with a fiberglass paddle.

Aluminum paddles are very cheap. Stiffness and weight are usually saved. When paddling, an aluminum paddle bends. Applied power fizzles out and paddling becomes more strenuous. Added to this is the weight. This is usually significantly higher, which leads to fatigue more quickly. We therefore do not recommend aluminum paddles.

SUP pump: how many variants are there? And how long do I pump an inflatable SUP?

Double Stroke Pump : For quickly inflating the SUP board. The pump can be set to pump when you push or pull the plunger. This ensures a fast air volume in the board.

Triple-Action-Pump: Two cylinders work in parallel. In single mode, twice the amount of air is transferred per pump. So the SUP board fills up very quickly. In double-action mode, it pumps up to 5 PSI. In triple mode, the pump achieves an output of max. 21 PSI.

12V Electric Pump: Can be operated via the car’s cigarette lighter using the adapter supplied. Alternatively with a small 12V battery. This can be connected using pole clamps. You set the desired PSI number beforehand. The pump switches off automatically once the pressure has been reached. This has the great advantage that you can, for example, change clothes during the pumping process and do not have to pay attention to the pressure.

Battery Pump:: In principle the same as the 12 V electric pump. The only difference is that the battery pump already has a battery installed. This makes the pump extremely portable and does not require an additional power source on the water. The battery can easily be charged in advance at home.

Accessories: What accessories do I need for my Stand Up Paddle?

The most important accessories are already included in our SUP board packages. But in addition to paddles, pumps, transport backpacks and safety leashes, there are other accessories.

SUP Transport Trolley : Allows comfortable transport of the Stand Up Paddle Boards. The boards are strapped onto a small, foldable cart. It can then be easily rolled to the water.

Drybags: Usually available with 10L, 20L and 40L volume. Items such as mobile phones, car keys, towels and clothing can be stowed in them so that they are protected from water. A snap hook is used to securely attach it to the board. Carrying straps are also attached for transport. Our inflatable SUP boards come with a 110L drybag. So you can practically reuse the transport backpack during the SUP tour.

SUP Board Bag: Practical transport and storage bag for hardboards. Protects the boards from bumps and damage. Fins and paddles can also be transported in it. The bags are mostly water-repellent.

Waterproof Cell Phone Case: This transparent and waterproof case is a very popular accessory. The expensive smartphone can be stored in it. Three pressure fasteners and an additional Velcro fastener prevent water from penetrating. Built-in air cushions provide buoyancy and make the bag and mobile phone float. The smartphone can be operated through the case: so you can take photos and make phone calls safely. Thanks to the adjustable cord, you can wear the cover comfortably and securely around your upper body.
